The United States of America has one of the worst maternal mortality rates among developed nations. While the global maternal death rates, among developed nations, have dropped by more than a third from 2000 to 2015, the maternal death rates in the United States has more than doubled since 1987. Particularly disturbing, is the fact that Black Women are 3 times more likely to die from pregnancy related causes than white women.

According to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), About 700 women each year die from pregnancy related complications and 60% of pregnancy related death is preventable.

Black Maternal Health Alliance seeks to increase the odds of Black mother and Black infant survivability. We pair our enrollees with nurse case managers that follow our enrollees before, during, and for 13 months after pregnancy. Our multicultural staff, are well versed on the unique culture, religions, life style choices, diets, and traditions of women of African descent. We are aware of the comorbidities and health conditions that are prevalent among the Black demographic. In addition, our professionals are, all too familiar, with the varied socioeconomic factors that also affect and impact the health of the Black community as well.
